Killer Pool by Host HQ

Killer Pool rules, explained.

Killer Pool is a group game played in a fixed order. Each player tries to keep their lives; the last player with a life wins. These are the rules and scoring options used by HostMyPool.

Choose the starting lives

HostMyPool has three presets. Quick gives every player two lives, Classic gives three, and Custom lets the host choose between one and nine starting lives. Choose and save the rules before starting.

Add at least two players. The app supports up to 24, with a different name for each player. The host can shuffle the playing order before the game begins.

Take one turn, then move along the order

The screen shows who is at the table. After the host records that player’s shot, HostMyPool moves to the next active player. Players who have lost all their lives are skipped.

HostMyPool keeps the score and turn order. The host judges what happened at the table and chooses the result.

How each shot changes the lives

HostMyPool shot results
Host’s buttonWhat happens
PotThe player keeps their lives. The turn moves on.
Black pottedThe player gains one life. The turn moves on.
MissThe player loses one life. At zero, they are out.
FoulThe player loses one life. At zero, they are out.

The host should explain what counts as a legal pot or foul, how to handle the break and when to re-rack before the first shot. Killer Pool house rules vary; the app records the result the host selects.

A short example

Jamie, Priya and Sam start a Quick game with two lives. Jamie pots and keeps two lives. Priya misses and drops to one. Sam pots the black and goes up to three. The next turn belongs to Jamie.

If Priya misses again on a later turn, Priya reaches zero and is out. Jamie and Sam keep taking turns until only one has any lives left.

Correct a result without starting again

Undo last result restores the previous lives and turn. The host can also add or remove one life for a named player during play, or remove an active player from the game. A player at zero can be restored with a host life adjustment while play is still open.

If the final recorded shot was wrong, the host can undo it from the winner screen. That reopens play with the previous state.

Finish the game and start the next one

In a single game, the last active player is the winner and appears on the venue display. The host can start the next game with the same players or an empty list. The next game opens in setup and has a new four-digit screen code.

Players do not need answering devices for Killer Pool. They play at the table while the host records each result.

Single games and tournaments

Start with a single game when you’re learning the setup. The venue app also has a tournament option with a prize wheel after each game and a rollover balance. Its settings are separate from the starting-lives preset.

A stake is optional and can be set to £0. HostMyPool records the amount entered by the host; it does not collect player payments. Agree any venue prize arrangements before play.
